The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) helps undergraduate students from 16 participating western states and territories attend Eastern with a lower cost of tuition.

WUE is worth over $14,000 for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office is in charge of EWU's WUE program and updates official WUE policies and procedures. The information that appears below is for information only and is subject to change without notice.

    Am I eligible for WUE?

There are really only a few requirements.

If you can answer "yes" to these questions, you're eligible.

If I'm not eligible for WUE, are there other awards for me?

Yes! Students from WUE states are eligible for other scholarships, too. You can read more about them as information becomes available at the Financial Aid website.

What are the WUE states and territories?

    Alaska Montana
    Arizona Nevada
    California New Mexico
    Colorado North Dakota
    CNMI Oregon
    Guam South Dakota
    Hawaii Utah
    Idaho Wyoming

How is WUE different at EWU?

Everyone says, "Applying to and affording college should be simple." And we agree.

At EWU, you can study in every program at WUE rates. Only the last two years of the nursing program are ineligible for WUE.

    How do I apply?

The good news: there is no separate WUE application. All you have to do is submit a completed EWU application for admission. Apply early!

Visit to complete your application for admission today.

When will I receive my WUE award?

Only admitted students receive WUE award letters, which means your application must be complete before we can send you a letter.

WUE award letters to admitted students are usually sent in early to mid February.

What happens after I receive a WUE award?

First, you'll receive notice that you are being offered a WUE award to study at EWU.

This isn't junk mail! It's critical that you log in to your myEWU Portal and access the agreement Financial Aid prepared for you. This agreement states that you accept the WUE award and agree to follow its conditions, one of which is a commitment to live on campus your first year at EWU if you're a freshman. Be sure to contact us with your questions about campus living and WUE requirements.

    How long does WUE last?

When you receive WUE at Eastern, it lasts for four years. Just make sure you're in good academic standing (a.k.a. getting good grades) and making satisfactory progress toward your degree (a.k.a. taking the classes you need in order to graduate).

Can I use WUE for Summer Session classes?

No, but you can use WUE for up to 18 credits during the regular academic year as long as you're attending full-time. Ten or 18 credits, it's up to you.

Who should I contact with questions?

    Is there small print?

    Yep, and here it is.

Students who register as freshmen and receive WUE must live on campus their first year. WUE awards for the 2017-18 academic year have already been awarded, and no new awards are available for winter and spring 2018. WUE award recipients must maintain legal residence in a WUE state other than Washington. WUE recipients cannot use the time of their enrollment toward fulfilling Washington in-state residency requirements for tuition purposes. All Eastern academic programs are open to WUE students on a space-available basis. Note: Eastern's WUE award does not apply to students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the Intercollegiate Nursing Alliance. All BSN students must apply for and receive aid through Washington State University. Requirements for the WUE program are subject to change without notice.
