Race 2006

Each year, EWU hosts the annual Intercollegiate Human Powered Paper Vehicle Engineering Competition. College teams from Washington, Idaho and Oregon participate in the event by creating human-powered vehicles almost entirely out of paper to see which team can build the best performing vehicle.

    Year In Review

We had another great year in 2006 with a total of eighteen teams turning out to race. I also want to welcome three new schools, Central Washington University, Olympic College and Seattle Central Community College, who joined the fray this year. Normally I like to write a nice summary about the competition each year, but unfortunately, I had to be on business travel during the competition and could not be there to observe and take photos. So this year's overview is pretty brief. I do want to thank all the volunteers who worked very hard to pull everything together in my absence.

Congratulations to our winning teams and schools for a job well done. Our six awards went out to four separate colleges, with Highline Community College taking both awards for project presentation and the award for innovative design. Green River Community college took home top race honors and Spokane Falls Community College came in a strong second. Finally Seattle Central Community College took home a well earned Best Team Spirit award.

If you are a student or faculty member and are looking into this competition for the first time, I hope you will consider joining us in the future. For those of you who participated in our competition, I look forward to seeing you and your new designs.

    Once again, thanks to all.
