Eastern Washington University's College of Social Sciences (CSS) offers academic programs that focus upon a wide range of human issues and experiences. From exploring the distant past to examining current human behavior, we prepare students for careers in the social sciences as well as social services professions. In our college, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members on undergraduate research projects, international studies programs, extracurricular activities, field experience and service learning projects, taking what you learn in the classroom and applying it to your real world.

In the social sciences and social services fields we are most interested in how people shape and are shaped by society and culture. The many disciplines from which we learn about societies and people in them include history, government, communications, sociology, psychology, geography, anthropology and social work. In our college we also study and learn about people in societies from the perspectives of gender, diversity and ethnicity, aging, children, counseling, archaeology, criminology, globalization, military science, social welfare and social justice.

In CSS we are committed to balancing the breadth of knowledge essential to be a fully educated citizen with in-depth career preparation. We believe this combination of breadth and specialization provides the very best a 4-year liberal arts education can offer. Our college is fully committed to cultural diversity and multiculturalism, providing over 65% of all the gender and cultural diversity classes and 70% of all the international perspective classes offered at the entire university. We are the home to Women's and Gender Studies, Africana Education, Chicano Education, American Indian Studies, Disability Studies, Addiction Studies, Children's Studies, Center on Aging and International Affairs.

CSS is also home to outstanding Masters-level programs. For example, the Master's of Social Work program boasts an enrollment of over 400 students with off-campus programs in numerous locations in Washington state. We also offer nationally recognized Master's degree programs in History, Psychology, Counseling, School Psychology, Communication Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies.

We welcome you to explore our CSS web site. We've designed this site as a way to introduce you to the college office staff, college sponsored events and activities as well as the wealth of services we provide students, including academic advising. Our website is also a gateway to the many academic programs the College offers.
