Planning for the Future: A Sustainable Facility
The University has proposed silver certification at the end of construction from the U.S. Green Building Council - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. The structure itself is a masonry and metal panel building with metal and membrane roofing. Natural lighting will be used through a variety of architectural glazing that is also high efficiency. The LEED program promotes the use of low environmental impact materials and design methods as well as giving special attention to natural lighting, low maintenace landscaping and other environmentally sensitive products and designs. The LEED green building rating system awards points for satisfying specified green building criteria. Special attention is given to water savings, energy efficiency, natural lighting, low maintenance landscaping and other environmentally sensitive products and designs. The only higher rating than gold is platinum. Environmentally-friendly bathrooms, lighting and landscaping are just some of the 'green' features of the building.
The URC has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification for its environmentally-friendly construction. The LEED program is sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, the nation's leading advocate of sustainable design.
