Recruitment announcement for judges, referees and robot inspectors for the Spokane First Robotics Competition (FRC):
The home website is http://www.usfirst.org/. Please look over the website for an overview of what the competition is all about.
The competition is throughout the USA for high school students.
Eastern Washington University (EWU) will be hosting the competition for the first time in Eastern Washington for students from WA, ID, MT, OR and CA. For many years there have been two competitions in Seattle that the students had to travel to compete. Those competitions will continue but students in our area will only have to travel to Cheney to participate.
At this point there are 47 high schools signed up to compete at EWU which equates to about 1000 students participating.
The actual competition is on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, 2013. Depending on your time commitment as a volunteer, the event will start either Wednesday evening, April 4, or Thursday evening, April 5. See volunteer job descriptions for more details.
Since EWU is "starting from scratch" with significant help from the Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI), recruiting volunteers is a significant task. In future years recruiting for volunteers for the competition should be easier. Currently the recruiting is concentrating on three areas; judges, referees and inspectors. Here are links to the job descriptions for each positions:
The experience and skills of the individuals are listed at each link. Engineers, designers, and other technical individuals are definitely needed, however skills in other business and marketing areas are wanted as well to balance the talent in these positions.
If you are interested in volunteering please go to this website to register and indicate your interest: https://my.usfirst.org/FIRSTPortal/Login/VIMS_Login.aspx
Click on the Create Account box under the green New Volunteers to start your registration. You must register to start the process of participation. Once you are registered you will immediately receive a confirming email. If you don't get that email follow the instructions to contact USFIRST. Your registration will be fed to the Volunteer Coordinator at EWU, who will either contact you or someone else on the Spokane FRC Planning Committee will contact you.
One last item: We are all volunteers organizing this event and we need more volunteers to be successful. Please consider committing your time to participate in a great event for kids! Please share this others that you think might be interested.
