We are pleased you decided to visit us, and hope you might come in person sometime soon. Our department is friendly and attentive to students' needs, and it is easy to get acquainted with other students, staff, and faculty.

    TEAM ANNOUNCEMENTS
    Date Announcement
    2/24/14 Campus Tours. A regularly-scheduled campus tour will leave at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, from the EWU Visitor's Center. A special tour for Science Olympiad participants will be available 3-4PM. Call 509.359.6555 or email campustours@ewu.edu for reservations. Private tours may be arranged for large groups. Contact the Visitor's Center for more information.
    2/24/14 For teams coming to the state tournament for the first time ... be aware that we have a Parade of Teams as part of the Closing Ceremony. Please have 2-4 students who will represent your school by carrying your banner or school sign.
    2/24/14 Students competing in closed events may not return to the event room if they need to leave after the event begins (such as leaving to go to the restroom).
    2/24/14 Science Olympiad team participants may NOT bring cell phones or other communication devices into closed event locations. Event supervisors will be asked to collect phones brought into closed events.
    2/24/14 Sign up for all sign-up events will take place prior to the tournament via online scheduling. See Event Q&A for more info. Coaches missing pre-sign-up, will need to sign up at event location on tournament day.
    2/24/14 Should parents of Science Olympians have an emergency and need to contact their child on Saturday, April 12, call Cheney Police Dispatch at 509.535.9233. They will get ahold of campus security to relay a message.
    2/24/14 Mission Possible - C Division. Energy Transfer Lists need to be faxed to 509-359-7450 by noon Friday, 4/11. Or scan (if necessary)/e-mail to smurphy@ewu.edu by noon Friday. Only if absolutely necessary, turn in at team registration Friday.
    2/24/14 Mission Possible - C Division. Be sure Energy Transfer Lists have team name AND team number clearly identified ... otherwise, Event Supervisor will not be able to match up to team at impound/sign-up. These need to be submitted by noon Friday 4/11 (see above announcement for fax # or e-mail). Be sure to use the ETL from national web site: http://www.soinc.org/sites/default/files/uploaded_files/MissionPossibleDivisionCETL2014Template.pdf
    There will be points deducted for not using the official template.
    2/24/14 What to bring to registration. Reminder that coaches need to bring the following to team check-in on Friday, 4-6PM in PUB Multipurpose Room or late registration Saturday, 7:30-9AM in the Pavilion: (1) Signed Roster/Ethics Form and (2) Photography Release. Both forms are available online. On the Roster-Ethics Form, please be sure printed students' names are legible and that all students have signed. C division teams MUST turn in their Mission Possible Task Sequence Lists if they haven't previously faxed or emailed.  
     2/24/14 Helicopters - B Division. Room dimensions: 20 x 40 feet x 20 feet high.
    2/24/14 Entertainment for Closing Activities/Ceremony will be announced later. [But leaning toward WSO's Got Talent ... back by popular demand!]
    2/24/14 MagLev (C Division) - Dimensions of the track provided by event supervisor: Length: 243.8 cm (8 feet) ... with 119 cm marked off from both ends; Width (between rails): 6.5 cm (2-9/16 inches); Height (from magnet to top of rail): 3.0 cm (1-3/8 inch).
    2/24/14 Trial Events Participation. Trial events are B: Geologic Mapping and Invasive Species; C: Hydrogeology and Invasive Species. Coaches, please let Sue Murphy know ASAP whether your team wishes to participate in any trial event (and which one/s). This will help with event planning.
    2/24/14 Impound Impound will be from 8:30-9:00 at the event location, with ONLY ONE EXCEPTION (see below). Students planning to compete in the event do NOT have to personally impound ... but be sure that whoever impounds has student names (correct spelling), team name and team number.

    Simple Machines (B Division) - will impound 12:30-1:00 at event location. See related announcement 3/14/14.
    2/24/14 Admitted Student Day - the EWU Admissions Office annual Spring open house for new students and their families will be the same day as the Science Olympiad tournament. Science Olympiad participants and their families are invited to attend sessions - see agenda from 2012 FYI ... 2014 agenda will be posted ASAP.
    3/14/14 Simple Machines (B Division) and Compound Machines (C Division) - these events will be run ONLY during their assigned X/Y rotation (so written and device testing will occur in designated X or Y time) - with NO sign-up for device testing. Impound for C is 8:30-9:00 at event location. Impound for B (Simple Machines) is 12:30-1:00 at event location.

    Message from event supervisor for both events: Students are required to impound their lever, any supplies (e.g. rulers, measuring tapes, tools, etc.), and their reference materials for the written test (reference materials must be in a 3-ring binder with no loose pages). The only thing not impounded are the calculators and writing implements and we will not be letting students bring in anything besides their calculators and writing implements.
    3/19/14 Elastic Launched Glider (C Division) - The event will not take place in Reese Court ... instead will be in Gym 264. Ceiling height of the gym is 27 feet to the beams (rafters) and another 5 feet to the ceiling.
    3/20/14 Updated Schedule - Tentative schedule posted. All rooms assigned. Invasive Species - B-C Trial - moved to Science 274. Reminder that all schedules tentative until identified as final ... however, this should be pretty much final.
    3/20/14 Sounds of Music (B Division) - The performance portion of the event will be closed. For students wishing to display their expertise with instruments, please consider signing up for WSO's Got Talent!  Need to submit participation form by noon Friday, April 11th.
    3/26/14 Spring Break ... keep checking Announcements ... plus Build Events Pre-Sign-Up - Even though many of you will be on Spring break next week or the following week, please keep checking announcements or assign designee to keep up with announcements. Of primary importance will be building events pre-sign-up. Information will be posted to Announcements some time next week; but the program we're using auto-sends information via e-mail. It only allows one e-mail. So if the coach of record will not be available/checking announcements/e-mail over the next 2 weeks, please send name/e-mail for designee who will be responsible for event pre-sign-up to Sue Murphy.
    4/2/14 Build Events Pre-Sign-Up - Info on when event pre-sign-up starts will be coming soon ... please be patient. Heads up, though. Most likely it will open at midnight Monday, 4/7 (which would actually be Sunday night) and will close at noon on Thursday, 4/10. Coaches (or designee) will receive e-mail with user name and password. Reminder that if coach of record will not be checking e-mail, to contact Sue Murphy with contact info for designee.
    4/2/14 Team List with Room Assignments - Team list with X/Y rotation and Team Room Assignments posted.
    4/2/14 Updated Campus Map - Map showing location of tournament events posted.
    4/2/14 Updated Tentative Schedule posted - MagLev (C Division) changed rooms - now in CEB 204. No other changes.
    4/3/14 Team List Map Legend Updated - Legend at bottom of team/team room list changed for PEC (#32) and Williamson (#58) to coincide with updated map posted yesterday. No other changes.
    4/3/14 B Division ESUS Sign-Up Information Sent - Coaches (or designee) have been sent initial information with access URL (http://sciolyeventsignup.com/wast/b), user name & password. If you believe you should have received and did not, please contact Sue Murphy. Sign up begins midnight Monday 4/7 (Sunday night) and ends noon Thursday 4/10. If coach or designee will not be able to personally handle pre-sign-up, you can forward info to a designee, but you should also let Sue Murphy know contact info so that if additional e-mails are sent pertaining to sign-up, they will go to that person. Be sure that user names and passwords are NOT shared with students -- only coach or designee should handle pre-sign-up.

    C Division ESUS info will be forthcoming ... probably later today or early Friday.
    4/3/14 Updated Tentative Schedule posted - Entomology (B & C Divisions) switched rooms with Water Quality (B & C Divisions). No other changes.

    4/4/14 Trial Events - Reminder to let Sue Murphy know whether your team will participate in the Trial Events ... so we can plan accordingly. B - Geologic Mapping & Invasive Species. C - Hydrogeology & Invasive Species.
    4/7/14 Final Schedules - Schedules showing complete tournament information (e.g., Team Check-In, Late Team Check-In, Welcoming Ceremony, Closing Ceremony, etc.) have been posted. [All schedules are subject to change until 4/9/14 ... any changes after that and coaches will be notified by e-mail plus copies put in team packets.
    4/7/14 Coaches Forum - You'll see on the B/C/Master schedules posted to web site that there is a Coaches Forum from 3-4PM. This is during the period that teams would be moving out of team rooms and making their way to the Pavilion for Closing activities. This is an opportunity for coaches to get together - something not normally afforded at most tournaments - and discuss best practices or other issues pertinent to Science Olympiad. All coaches are encouraged to make every effort to attend (e.g., have a parent oversee team room clean-up). The session will conclude in time to get to the closing activities and be with your team.
    4/7/14 Guest WiFi - WiEWUGuest is available for anyone's use while on campus. There are no passwords, but users will need to agree to "Unsecured WiFi Conditions."
    4/7/14 ESUS Building Event Pre-Sign-Up - ESUS (online sign-up program) has opened and will be open until noon on Thursday. Any coach (or designee) who has not received log-on information should contact Sue Murphy ASAP for codes. Note that if the pre-sign-up period is missed or if you wish to change sign-up times after the period ends, sign-up or changes may be made with the event supervisor 8:30-9:00 at the event location on 4/12/14.
