The Master of Social Work degree (MSW) is the graduate degree that provides advanced knowledge and skills for increased effectiveness as a professional social worker. The MSW is the most marketable, most transferable and most requested degree by employers in the social services arena!
The School of Social Work offers a two-year, full-time MSW Program located in Cheney, WA and three-year, part-time MSW Programs in Everett, Vancouver and Eastern Washington. The full-time and part-time programs have identical admission requirements and curriculum. The MSW at EWU is not offered online.
Admission to the MSW Program is based on the following:
The GRE is not required.
Both MSW programs offer an Advanced Standing Option which allows qualified individuals to obtain a MSW in 11 months for the full-time program and in 18 months for the part-time program. Admission requirements are similar to those of the full-time program but also require a 3.50 cumulative GPA in undergraduate social work courses and a bachelor's degree in social work awarded no longer than seven years before the application date. The degree must be from a CSWE accredited undergraduate social work program. There are no exceptions to the stated admission requirements for Advanced Standing. The GRE is not required.
JD/MSW dual degree program
The JD/MSW dual degree program is designed to educate law and social work professionals who are competent to practice either profession in the conventional sense. A student who successfully completes the program will graduate in four years (three years for students with "Advanced Standing" in Social Work) with a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law, and a MSW from EWU. Admission to the program is highly selective. Students must apply and be admitted to both Gonzaga School of Law, http://www.law.gonzaga.edu/admissions, and the EWU School of Social Work via each school's established admissions process. This means that candidates for the program must meet all of the admissions criteria for each school, including achieving scores on standardized tests (LSAT, GRE, etc.) that support the candidate's admission to each of the respective schools. Only after a candidate is admitted to both schools' programs, will the candidate's application to the dual degree program be considered.
Dual-degree students will pay tuition for law school courses at the rate charged by Gonzaga University School of Law, http://www.law.gonzaga.edu/Admissions/financial_aid_and_scholarships/Tuition-and-Fees/default.asp, and will pay tuition for social work courses at the rate charged by EWU, http://access.ewu.edu/Student-Financial-Services/Cost-and-Fees/Tuition-Rates.xml.
The Social Work Program is committed to the ongoing development of social work education that instills a core commitment to work toward social and economic justice in a diverse society with the result being the empowerment of individuals, groups and communities in their efforts to enhance opportunities for human well-being.
