About the Child Welfare Scholars Program

The Child Welfare Scholars program is committed to developing a highly trained workforce for students who are committed to practicing social work in Idaho in the field of child welfare. Through the Eastern Washington University College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Social Work, ICWRTC offers placements that are intended to provide the best learning environment for students in child welfare and learn "best practice" techniques.

Students accepted into the Child Welfare Scholars program are placed in public or private child welfare agencies in Idaho for their field practicum. They are supervised by Agency Field Instructors (AFI) who meet the qualifications according to accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education.

Child Welfare Scholars complete all courses and field education required by the EWU School of Social Work and the Child Welfare Scholars Program and remain in good academic standing.

The Child Welfare Scholars program is available for both current and potential Department of Health and Welfare employees. Retention of current employees and recruitment of potential employees is central to the purpose of the program.
