    Applications to the Graduate School and our graduate programs can be found online. Please note there is no separate department application for Applied Mental Health and School Counseling.  You may access the graduate applications by using the link. Please follow the instructions. For recommendation letter instructions, please reference the FAQs.

    Applied Mental Health and School Counseling

    Below you will find a link to download the recommendation form. This form is in pdf format. Please note you need to use Adobe Reader (a free download) to view AND save. Please inform the individuals who are making the recommendation that the form must be opened using that program.


    1. You will download the form. 2 Fill out the top portion with your information. 3. Save your changes and name the document: RecLetter YOURLASTNAME.doc  4. Then, you will email the form to your referral source to complete. Please make note that you do not need to print out these forms. 5. Once he or she has completed the form and written a supplemental letter, he or she may email it directly to or send it via mail.  6. Follow-up with the department to see if the letters have arrived.

    You need three (3) recommendation letters to have a complete file.

    Important Information:

    Deadline for application is February 1st.

    Make sure to read all application materials and correspondence you receive related to your application thoroughly.

    Use your legal name on all documents.

    Release of any application information will not be granted to another person without written consent from the applicant.

    General Application Checklist

    Complete the online application via the Graduate Studies website.

    Pay the $50 application fee. This fee is non-refundable and must be submitted with the Application for Admission to the Graduate School.

    Send your transcripts to the Graduate School. NOTE: The Graduate Studies office can obtain these from the Registrar if you have previously attended EWU. You must request transcripts from all other institutions. Do not submit transcripts directly to the Department.

    Complete Personal Statement (submitted online via the application)

    Send resume to the department using the applicable email address

    Send three (3) recommendation letters addressing your qualifications for graduate study in either mental health or school counseling. Should include the recommendation letter form (see above) and an accompanying letter on business letterhead.

    Send Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores to the Graduate Studies office. Exam scores older than five (5) years are not acceptable. The Psychology Department requires you take the General exam only. All official scores must be received by February 1st.
