A new faculty member at Eastern, Daniel Bigler holds a masters degree in Children's Studies from King's College London and is finishing an additional degree in Children's Rights at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He has previously worked in a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool, studied children's play and peer cultures in an adventure playground in London, and been involved in a number of groups that advocate for greater play opportunities for children in the United States.
His current research interests include children's play and play spaces, the hidden 'street' cultures of children, incorporating children as co-researchers in academic research, and the history of organizations like the Boy Scouts and summer camps and their influence on concepts of 'Childhood'. In his personal life, Daniel also spends a lot of time exploring big cities and imagining himself as a dinosaur.
