Diane is a first generation college graduate, and completed both her BASW and MSW degrees at EWU. She has been an advisor at EWU since 1999 and is the Coordinator of Graduate & Undergraduate Services for The College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Social Work, where she advises undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on issues relating to program requirements and career development. She develops relationships with students helping them navigate the academic system, including the unforeseen bumps and gullies that they often experience along the way. She has found that students who seek out advisors often find this easier to manage.
Throughout her career Diane has helped students effectively transfer from other institutions to EWU, including both community and four-year colleges. She is skilled at helping students make decisions and assume responsibility for their academic outcomes. She has worked with hundreds of students and to this day and considers it an honor to be part of each ones academic journey. “I am so fortunate to have a dream job that allows me to develop long-term relationships with students." she says. It is important to me to make sure students are satisfied with their experience at EWU and that they understand the process of completing their degree. "I work with them a minimum of two years and the relationships do not end when they leave EWU. It is very exciting to hear from former students and very rewarding to hear about what they are doing around the world. Our alums are doing great work and making a difference on a local, regional, national and global level.”
Nominated by a student, she was awarded the Outstanding Faculty/Departmental Advisor by the EWU Academic Advising Association (ACADA) in October, 2014
