January 3, 2016
Dear EWU Graduate and Undergraduate Students in Planning, Geography, Social Sciences, Engineering, Computer Sciences and Transportation Related Disciplines:
I am pleased to announce that EWU is soliciting student applications for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Tribal College and Universities Transportation Fellowships for the 2016-2017 Academic Year. These competitive fellowships are for students interested in careers relating to transportation, and provide the opportunity for students to complete a research project working with the EWU Eisenhower Fellowship Faculty Advisor, Dr. Dick Winchell, FAICP, or other EWU faculty in engineering, planning, or related fields. The Fellowships for this year will be up to $10,000 per student. The Fellowship includes up to $1,500.00 for travel, lodging and expenses for the TRB conference in Washington, D.C. each January (required). The balance of the funds are distributed directly to support students as stipends with one third the remaining stipend to be paid at the beginning of each quarter upon successful completion of program requirements. Those requirements include:
1. Submission of application materials (draft) and research proposal February 10, 2016
2. Submission of final proposal in March, 2016, and selection for application and funding;
3. Completion of a research proposal abstract and outline by September 2016;
4. Participation with possible presentation of research projects at the National Transportation Research Board Conference 2017 in January in Washington, D.C. (mandatory for all fellows);
5. Completion of a final research report in June 13, 2016.
Detailed information and how to apply are listed in the attached announcement, and available on our EWU Eisenhower Fellowship website: http://www.ewu.edu/x6128.xml. The Deadline for 2016-2017 is March 15, 2016. Materials must be submitted to Margo Hill, project manager and faculty advisor who will oversee all research projects, including those completed under the guidance of other faculty. This program is supported by the American Indian Studies Office at EWU, with Director Dr. Deirdre Almeida and Counselor Nicole DeVon assisting with all phases of the project through program and student support, and the NW Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP).
We encourage students to contact Margo Hill for an initial discussion and to submit preliminary application materials for review prior to final submission by the EWU deadline of March 15, 2016. All applications will be reviewed by a committee, which will provide the final ranking and recommendations for nomination and selection for the Fellowship Positions. Thank you for your interest. Please contact Dr. Winchell if you have any questions or need assistance.
