Winter 2012 Newsletter
Greetings and welcome back to Winter quarter 2012. We hope that your break in December and January was a welcome respite. The main activity for this quarter will be taking place later this January as we begin to interview the candidates for the dean's position. Details are given below.

Please be sure to note the days and times when the candidates will be doing their presentations to the faculty and staff and plan to participate in as many of the open sessions as possible. The presentations will be presented with live-link from Spokane to Cheney and Bellevue. There are also open times available for faculty and staff in both Cheney and Spokane to meet with the candidates as well as with the College and Department Personnel Committees.

"Meet the Professionals" - The College will hold another "Meet the Professionals" session for students during Winter Quarter. Our Fall Quarter sessions were attended by approximately 500 students. The programs are designed to assist students in the development of the "soft skills" needed to develop and present themselves as they seek to enter or advance their careers. A date and topic will be announced shortly.
Final Exam Week is Tuesday - Friday, March 20 - 23 (note exams begin on Tuesday)
The Riverpoint campus will have new technology support beginning in late January. Lisa Weirich will be replacing Howard Griffith as the campus tech person as Howard has been assigned to EWU's Help Desk in Cheney. We wish all the best to Howard in his new role and welcome Lisa to Riverpoint.

Faculty Welcome - Xiaohong (Shelly) Fan
Shelly Fan is our newest faculty member to join the college and will be teaching accounting. She was most recently at the University of Texas at Arlington working on her PhD.
Program Developments - The Executive Tribal Planning graduate certificate program has gone public. The certificate program is a 23-credit graduate program delivered completely online. It will serve American Indian tribal governments, tribal elected leaders and staff, and any graduate students interested in the practice of American Indian tribal planning. Patrick Jones received a $4,000 grant from the Spokane Regional Health District for "Priority Spokane Website Maintenance."
Pam Weigand, program director for Business & Marketing Education, continues to serve students who want a BA to teach business and marketing at high schools. BME-specific courses have now been converted and are being offered as a statewide online program through DIEO. Pam is President of the Washington State Business Education Association and is an invited speaker this year for a regional conference in Newport Beach, California (February) and a national conference in Boston (April).
Professor David Eagle's work on nominal GDP targeting has appeared in the blogosphere through his guest blogging on "The Market Monetarist" blog. Google "Market Monetarists and Eagle" to read his work or join the discussion.
