Andy Plamondon completed a bachelor's degree in Music Education at Boise State University in 1984. He attended graduate studies at Indiana University from 1984-86 where he was a student of William Adam. Other teachers include Galindo Rodriguez, Armando Ghittalla, and John McNeil. Andy has been an active clinician, adjudicator and performer since moving to Spokane in 1987. He is a member and featured soloist with ensembles such as the Spokane Symphony, Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Bob Curnow Big Band, Clarion, Desifinado and Kind of Blue. He writes and arranges music for many ensembles and is the founder of the versatile consortium of musicians called "Of a Mind." These multi-instrumentalists perform highly improvisational works in contemporary settings.
Plamondon teaches trumpet, directs the Repertory Jazz Ensemble, and coaches small ensembles such as Brass Quintets, Trumpet Ensemble, and Jazz Combos at Eastern Washington University. He also performs regularly with the EWU Faculty Brass Quintet.
Mr. Plamondon also teaches applied trumpet at both Whitman and Walla Walla Colleges. He has recorded nationally released commer- cials and jingles, and appeared on recently released recordings by Clarion, Desifinado, and Casey MacGill and the Spirits of Rhythm. He teaches and adjudicates at many Northwest area Music Festivals including EWU's Jazz Dialogue and the Spokane Youth Symphony summer camps.
Mr. Plamondon has performed with many of the world's most well known and respected jazz, country, rock, pop, folk, and classical artists. Other ensembles and festivals Andy has been associated with are: Fes- tivals - CBC Jazz Festival, CSI Jazz Festival, Jazz Northwest, Sun Valley Summer Festival Orchestra.Groups - Boise Philharmonic, Cathedral Brass, Brass Works, Russ Morgan, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Guy Lom- bardo Band, Allegro, Zephyr, and the Dennis Carey Orchestra.
