Abstract: Sino-Vietnam Relations: From Cultural Connections to Present Day Economics
Mentor: Dr. Grant Forsyth, Department of Economics
Through a comparative analysis of Sino-Vietnamese historical relationship, my research analyzes the current economic situation in both China and Vietnam and provides a better indication of where the two economies are heading in the future. This paper reviews the dyad's dynamic relationship in the past as well as present day economic relationships. By studying historical events, identifying current legal policies, and highlighting economic reforms, I show how Vietnam continues to emulate China, although their relationship has evolved from China being the aggressor into one of mutual interest through bilateral agreements.
