Abstract: Is the United States the Leader in Serial Murder?
Mentor: Dr. Dale Lindekugel, Sociology
Current research provides much information on psychological and sociological theories for serial murder, as well as a multitude of case studies. However, the research does not accurately address the incidence and prevalence of serial murder in the United States or other countries. This is because there is currently not enough conclusive data to formulate statistics regarding the incidence and prevalence of serial murder. It is a common held belief that the occurrence of serial murder in the United States heavily outweighs that of other countries. This paper will address this issue and look at cultural reasons for any possible variation in the occurrence of serial murder in the United States and Russia.
