Abstract: Vulnerability and Content Specificity Encoding Biases

Mentor: Dr. Philip Watkins, Psychology and Dr. Gilberto Garcia, Education

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between sociotropic and autonomy personality style and encoding biases for affective valenced words. We predicted a mood-congruent and content specific encoding pattern. The participants were exposed to sociotropic positive and negative words and autonomous positive and negative word lists. Sociotropic subjects induced to negative mood induction should be able to imagine a negative scene faster than autonomous subjects, positive sociotropic subjects or control groups.
