Mentor: Dr. Carolyn Corsey and Dr. Robert Short, WSU Health & Sciences
This paper reports on the Sense of Coherence (SOC), a concept introduced by Antonovsky (1979, 1987), reflecting a perceived ability to cope with stress (Coe, Miller, Flaherty, 1992) and the health of Aviation Safety Investigators (ASI) who responded to two fatal commercial air disasters. Specifically, the question examined in this paper concerns that a relationship between resiliency, as measured by the Sense of Coherence (SOC) scale and the number of psychological and physical symptoms reported post-disaster.
