The Academic Placement Testing Program (APTP) sponsors the Math Placement Test (MPT) initiated in January 1984 and it is offered at the five public universities in Washington. The purpose of APTP MPT is to place students into an entry level mathematics course at their respective universities. Note: Eastern cannot accept scores from a COMPASS or ASSET Math Placement Test.
All Students admitted to Eastern Washington University without an approved direct transfer degree must take the APTP Math Placement Test prior to registering for a math class.
When a student has satisfied at least one of the exceptions listed below they are not required to take the APTP MPT: (1) their official transcript indicates minimum 2.0 grade in an Intermediate Algebra or higher level math course from a post-secondary institution (*refer below); 2) their College Board Advanced Placement Calculus AB or BC Test score 3 or better was officially reported to EWU (**refer below); 3) their College Board Advanced Placement Statistics Test score 3 or better was officially reported to EWU for satisfaction of MATH 115 requirement (**refer below); 4) student officially reported to EWU their qualifying CLEP Course score (*refer below); or (5) student will enroll in a pre-university basic skills math course, such as MATH 100 or 103A.

Where do I pay the APTP MPT Fee?
An EWU student who lost their receipt will need to log into their EagleNET (http://eaglenet.ewu.edu) account before the test session and print another receipt. Otherwise, you will need to obtain another receipt, in person, from Student Financial Services.
There are several types of the mathematics placement test, such as...
Before the test session an examinee will need to decide what type of APTP math placement test they will take. This decision is based on your mathematics background and the math course(s) you are required to pass for major or area of interest. Your math placement test score is determined by the number of problems you answer correctly and for placement purposes it is important that you do not guess at the answers. Note: An examinee with a documented disability that requires special testing accommodation will need to make prior arrangements with the EWU Disability Support Services Office in 124 Tawanka Hall at (509) 359-6871.
We recommend that an examinee prepares for the test type they will take by completing a set of sample test practice problems without a calculator. APTP's MPT RETEST POLICY is... An examinee may take each type of math placement test, Intermediate, General and/or Advanced twice within any 12-month period, with a minimum two-week wait between retaking the same test type. The examinee who took the Advanced test and must retest may take the Intermediate or General when it is next offered and vice versa. Note: Payment of $25 MPT Fee is required for each retest.
